Spencer Carlin --  Spencer attends King High, the central setting for the show. She is portrayed by Gabrielle Christian, and has a tempestuous romantic relationship with Ashley Davies.

 

Ashley Daives--She attended King High School before she got a 12.5 million dollar inheritance, and is portrayed by actress Mandy Musgrave.A rebellious narcissist who is at times known to refuse the conformity of labels such as straight or gay, the character has emerged as a gay icon in the LGBT community.she pursued a long time relationship with aiden but then decided that she liked girls more. she then pursued an ongoing relation ship with spencer..(spashleyy!! <3)

 

Glen Carlin-- Glen is an all around hottie!. he is the star basketball player for all of season 1, and even when he is on crutches he still looks hot. he can get a girl like that, and he has a major ego!..but come on look at him!

 

Clay Carlin-- Clay, played by Danso Gordon, was fatally shot in a a drive by shooting during the season two finale. Clay was declared dead in season three opening episode. Clay attended King High School along with his adoptive brother and sister Spencer Carlin, Glen Carlin and his pregnant girlfriend Chelsea Lewis.

 

Chelsea Lewis-- Aasha Portrays Chelsea Lewis, a young artistic girl with an optimistic look on life and the world around her. She falls in love for one of the main SON Characters Clay Carlin. It is revealed through there relationship that Chelsea has had a tough past weather it be her previous boyfriends or her trust issues. She finally trust Clay enough for him to be her first which leads to an unpredicted pregnancy that is show throughout the whole first and part of second season. . Sadly that night while her happiest night is her saddest when gang violence ensues by a drive by shooting the shots and kills Clay leaving Chelsea Alone and without anyone to care for her and her soon coming child.

 

Paula Carlin-- Paula is the main reason the Carlin family moved so that she could begin a new job in the E.R. in Los Angeles. Her new job has put a large strain on her family life, as well as her marriage. At the end of the episode "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are", she discovered her daughter and Ashley are together.Paula is portrayed by Maeve Quinlan.

 

Arthur Carlin-- Arthur is the father of the Carlin family and was a "hero" social worker back in Ohio. However, after moving to L.A. because of his wife's job, he is having trouble adapting to big city life. Arthur keeps the family together, and sticks up for his daughter Spencer whenever Paula tries to start fights with her about being gay. Arthur tries everything to keep the family together, and it usually works. Even when his wife was cheating on him with another doctor at the hospital she works at, he tried to fix that problem. And it worked.Arthur is portrayed by Rob Moran.

PAULA-- shes the mom you love to hate. but you cant really hate, because come one just look at her. She has tried everythihg to keep spencer off the road she is already on. She even called up some therepist to come and straighten spencer out.She truly feels like spencer needs to be saved. She knows that in life some people will hate spencer for her choice. however she doesnt realize what ashley means to her daughter. that ashley gives spencer a reason to smile, and that she will love her no matter what. in the spisode gay pride, paula goes with ashley as "her mom". Spencer and ashley both realize now how much paula is changing so that they can be together.
